Julianne Lu (林璟妤)
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Washington State (License #LH 60777033), a mother, and a certified Love & Logic parenting skills instructor. I hold a Master’s Degree in Psychology from Seattle University, along with dual Bachelor's degrees in Clinical Psychology and Ethnic Relations & Cultures.
My professional journey in counseling began as a school counselor, where I spent four years working closely with students, families, and schools. This experience gave me invaluable insights into helping families navigate communication and build stronger relationships. When I opened my private practice in 2013, I initially focused on working with children, youth, and families. As time went on, many adults sought my services, looking for a therapist who could understand their cultural and linguistic backgrounds. This led me to gradually expand my practice to include adults and couples, initially offering virtual sessions.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, my practice transitioned to exclusively virtual sessions. This shift also marked a new chapter in my work, as I decided to focus solely on supporting youth, adults, and couples. While it was difficult to say goodbye to some of my younger clients, this change allowed me to continue providing dedicated support to those navigating these unprecedented times. Together, we have learned to hold onto what we have and focus on what we hope to achieve moving forward.
I am also an active member of the Washington Association of Play Therapy and the American Mental Health Counselors Association. I highly value ongoing learning and professional involvement to stay current and effective in my field.
My practice emphasizes existential and humanistic approaches. I deeply respect what my clients bring into each session, starting from their present experiences to explore and expand upon their broader life journey. Human beings learn and adapt from past experiences. Reactions and coping mechanisms that helped us navigate challenges in the past can sometimes become ingrained as part of our character. These traits shape how we interact with the world and how we subconsciously view ourselves. I believe that each person’s traits are unique and deserve to be understood, seen, and recognized.
A safe and professional counseling relationship provides a space for clients to explore these traits, which are often sources of strength but can also contribute to feeling stuck when facing new challenges. By gaining clarity about their inner selves, clients often feel empowered to unlock new potential and move forward with confidence. It is a profound privilege to be a part of my clients' journeys and to embrace together the possibilities of what’s to come.
