Julianne Lu (林璟妤)
I am a mom, a Love & Logic parenting skills instructor, and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Washington (LH 60777033), with a Master’s Degree in Psychology from Seattle University, and double major Bachelor's in Clinical Psychology and Ethnic Relations and Cultures. After 4 years as school counselor, I have gained valuable insight into helping families navigate communication with the school. In addition to having worked in a variety of agencies, as a member of Washington Association of Play Therapy and a member of American Mental Health Counselors Association, I value active learning and involvement in organizations to stay current in my profession.
All children and teens go through a special developmental stage of life similar to the struggle of tuning an instrument. The challenges in their lives can muddle their tunes, and sometimes force them to perform a note that their instrument is not designed for. This can be a frustrating and confusing process for everybody. I believe my calling is to understand the unique capabilities of your child’s “instrument,” and to facilitate the process of tuning the instrument so your child can play his/her own beautiful song.
My practice emphasizes existential and humanistic approaches. Children are able to discuss and understand the sources of their stresses with me through a safe therapeutic relationship. In my therapy room, children are given the opportunity to re-identify themselves, and develop new coping and relaxation skills. I have come to appreciate that when children have a balanced relationship with themselves, they are able to gain the motivation and energy to concentrate and enjoy their academic, family and social life.
I utilize play therapy, sand tray therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy to augment this philosophy, and depending on each child’s needs, he/she will receive a unique individual treatment plan.
