I want to find a therapist who respects my cultural background and uses it as part of the therapeutic practice

I am an Asian counselor with Psychology and Ethnic Relations and Cultures degrees. A person's values and beliefs are strongly tied to their cultural background.  Our family, ethnicity, and religion affect how we see ourselves, our interactions with others,  as well as our definitions of success and failure.

There is a desire to be accepted and treated the same as everyone else, but at the same time, we also desire to preserve and to be respected for our differences.

Counseling is not a cookie cutter that shapes and trims everyone to fit societal standards. It is to understand and embrace who we are, and let the individuality and uniqueness of you be expressed symbiotically within the environment.
